Here you have the posters we saw in class, but in full colour this time. You can either prepare a short class speech about one of the campaigns or post some comments about the pictures that you liked the most.
The image that has draw my attention has been the last one. it´s the one which show a seal hunting a human baby. This campaign always reopen in my mind what it looks to be an eternal debate. The debate is always about why are there countries that kill seals? (other times these are whales for instance). On the other hand exist a bigger quantity of people in favour of forbide killing seals whereas countries like Canada or Norway don´t. In this debate, rapidly appear another question, the sort of, if countries should have to stop hunting seals, why don´t We stop killing chickens or rabbits?. Every time I see images about hunting whales or seals I feel something special that touch me a nerve, therefore it knock to my awareness. In spite of it, when I see a chickens farm, and we all know what is going to happen to this chickens, I dont´t feel the same. It could be because in our present culture We don´t usually eat whales or seals, and in the other hand We often eat chickens; maybe. Could be because We never watch on tv people hunting chickens? I guess so. Or even could be because We feel annoyed watching big and wild animals being killed? I supouse so (don´t forget wild animals could be endangered but not chickens). As a conclusion the only truly thing is, I find harsh the videos showing us these big wild animals being hunted, but despite the fact We need to know it to reopen the debate.
David has made this task very difficult to me, but let's go! I would like to talk about the differences between the way the video entitled "only stupid cows..." and any one of the posters campaigns struggle with our conscience. In my view, the movie shows us dramatically a real story. They try to shake our emotions and arouse a deep sense of unease on us. An emocional punishment which is addressed to all of the audience including those who are not used to this unhealthy driving habit. On the other hand, advertisements satirize and amuse meanwhile we react involuntarily to the message. Our feelings, which are full of controversy, get rid of these cliché. To sum up, both film and posters are useful but none of them are absolute. Our reward is that things become better inch by inch.
Well, I´m going to talk about a shocking campaign too. In my case, the "explosive tree".
As you can see, the most important thing in that poster is how people are damaging the environment every day. That situation is being induced by many different ways such us using our personal car instead the urban bus, having a bath istead of a shower or just because we don't pay enough attention when you smoke or eat at the countryside.
Obviously, all this things can't be solved in one day, but if we start raising awareness of the problem, the nature would thank us for it.
However, not many people woory about that. Only the NGO´s try to search the better solution, but sometimes they take the wrong way and they finish violating the law. In fact, one or maybe two years ago (I can't remember), some members of GreenPeace were sent to prison because they appeared in an important event in Copenhague without having an invitation. That's not the way they have to follow...
As I see it, it's a problem that we can solve if we want to, but we are humans and we just think on ourselves.
The secret of this shocking campaings maybe is that you could see yourself in some of this advertisement. For example, the one about a small girl with a halo around the head, how many children have you seen inside a car with their parents smoking? Smokers many times don't realized the damage they made to people around them. This kind of photographs are very interesting and let you think a lot. This change is in your hand so it is up to you make this modification on your behaviour. This advertisement remind me the smoking ban, which created a big debate in Spain but now noone talk about it. We have another and more important things to think about.
